How green is Latex?
A study of the environmental impact of Latex
Latex is the natural sap of the rubber tree Hevea Brasiliensis. It is a milky substance which is extracted from the tree through a process called tapping, a sloping cut is made in the bark to allow sap to be collected in buckets. Once collected the latex is concentrated to a dry rubber content of about 60%. It is then preserved with ammonia to stabilise it, this becomes the starting material for natural latex products like, surgical gloves, condoms, foam latex mattresses and even gimp masks.
